IS HIP HOP REALLY DEAD?

I know this is quite sudden but as I was writing about Lupe Fiasco's DUMB IT DOWN, I realised how much I'd missed songs like his. I remember when hip hop was philosophical. It reminded me of the how ROCK music used to sound. Hip hop these days just focus on SEX, DRUGS, MONEY and GIRLS (who they refer to as BITCHES).

Although I respect the background of most rappers and how hip hop has raised most of the from the shackles of poverty to wealth but the fact is that most of them don't really involve themselves in hip hop. Most of them hide under the excuse of trying or introducing a new style to the sound but in the actual sense its a display of pure mediocrity. The most annoying thing is not them putting the record out but those buying it. Its like the association of the demented souls and that i tell you is a very poor thing.

In their defence of introducing new stuff into the hip hop genre, I would strongly say its a lie. WHY? Look at EMINEM (who I think is the BEST RAPPER ever but is not appreciated because of his race) he brought his own style which was fast rapping in a rhythmic way. BONE THUGS 'N' HARMONY, those I say were the fastest rappers ever. Twista had nothing on them. SNOOP DOGG, laid back. Easy going just flowing was his trademark style. NAS made us, the new generation, to see the essence of hip hop which was to talk about the ills in the society.

Hip hop as a genre is just like Rock. The founding fathers and disciples made sure that the music focused on things that were strictly artistic and sometimes dark and psychotic. Hip hop was deep. It was a song you bobbed your head to. It was like poetry put in motion and beats to come to life. It wasn't about the amount of chicks you had sex with or the drugs to took or the money you threw around but something more than that.

Hip hop gave so many youths a sound regardless of where you were from or what you looked like. Even people who claimed to be hardcore rock fans saw some similarity of hip hop with rock and embraced it even if not publicly. Hip hop was the genre that we knew made us see more than just the surface of things.

I understand the trying to make it commercial but being too commercial is like losing the way and missing the point. Its like rejecting the NORM and accepting the CON. The hip hop right now is like insulting the listeners. Yes, that's the word INSULTING. Modern day hip hop is an insulting piece of shit.

For me being born in the eighties this crap I listen to today is a total disgrace and it shows how most of our artistes are missing the point and becoming cluesless. Hip hop has now turned to a side show nonsense. *sighs* i really miss GOOD QUALITY MUSIC. God, when are those days going to come again?

Sorry if i didn't stick to the point but seriously in my mind i think HIP HOP is dead. Some say its sleeping while others well, are in the demented region.
